Who would you trust to tell you about the refugee crisis in the Middle East and the possible dangers it poses for the West? A politician, perhaps? Experts? Academics?
Well, how about Elmo?
Sadly, that’s not some sort of joke. Thanks to the producers of Sesame Street, the little red puppet with questionable English skills was recently “interviewed” by CNN about his experiences visiting a refugee camp.
The network aired the interview on Facebook Live (apparently, there are some things even CNN won’t show on the main network) on Monday. In it, the 3 1/2-year-old character was asked about his visit to a Jordanian refugee camp earlier this year — and if you like illeism and propaganda, this was the interview for you.
“They like to play and learn just like Elmo and all his friends at Sesame Street,” Elmo said, adding that the trip was “really wonderful because Elmo got to meet a lot of new friends.”
However, some parts of the interview made Elmo depressed. “It was really sad because Elmo’s new friends told Elmo that they had to leave their homes because it wasn’t safe for them to stay,” Elmo said.
